Medidas lineares e angulares em equinos mangalarga machador no Norte de Minas Gerais

Abstract

This study aimed to verify the linear measurements, their proportions, the angular measurements and correlation between them in Mangalarga Marchador horses registered in the breed association and raised in the North of Minas Gerais. Sexes, periods of birth, management and farms of 27 linear and nine angular measurements were analyzed. The analyzes were carried out at Unimontes - Campus Janaúba / MG. Only the period of birth did not influence the angular measurements, of all traits in the linear and angular evaluated ones. In the majority, 15 of the 19 linear measurements that differed statistically, males were superior to females. The sex had effect on only two angles, the humerus-radius, of 111.37 ° for males and 113.21 ° for females, and the pelvis-femur from 80.36 ° for males and 84.18 ° for females, both females had higher mean values than the males. The correlations between these measures, ranging from -0.33 to 0.27 between linear with angular ones, and from -0.29 to 0.43 between linear were made. The correlations between the linear and angular measurements indicate that the openings of the angles of the members are influenced by the size of the measurements of the bones. Phenotypic selection for linear measurements should be done more thoroughly, as this will favor the positive or negative angles.
