Novos trabalhos, velhas responsabilidades: narrativas de mulheres da polícia cívil de Montes Claros/MG (1992 – 2019)

Abstract

This research aimed to understand the historical context of the opening of the Brazilian Police to the insertion of women, as well as the maintenance of the female presence in these spaces. As is well known, there are still few related academic productions that investigate the category of police women, especially when the Institution is the Civil Police, since a large part of the scientific production on the subject has a greater focus on militarized institutions. From this, it was justified to investigate and analyze the processes concerning the insertion and constitution of women in civil police, since women have increasingly conquered their space in the labor market and especially in professions historically constructed as essentially male, in order to add to the academic production on the subject. Bearing in mind that women already make up an expressive number of police officers in Brazil, but are not yet represented in ideal proportions mainly in the highest positions in the hierarchy, the objective was to investigate the reasons for the inequalities present in the scope of the work of civil police. Together, the objective was to analyze the phenomena that occur in work relations originated by the instance of power and gender. To achieve the research objectives, the Oral Life History methodology was used in order to transform the reports into historical sources for analysis. Thus, interviews were condu cted with twelve female police officers who work or have worked in the city of Montes Cla ros/MG. The time frame of the research - which makes up its title - was determined according to the year of insertion of the oldest employee (1992) until the year of the interviews (2019). It was noticed that the presence of women in the Police has been shown to be a historical move ment that caused and still causes constant changes in the public security scenario in Brazil. In this way, this research was an exercise of investigation and reflection regarding the field of disputes around gender relations, present in the whole society and which are experienced by women and which were reported by the civil police.
